A Second Chance at ‘I Do’ at Kiwi House

We recently had the joy of helping create a truly special celebration at Kiwi House Care Home, when our resident Janet Panton was given the chance to share in her granddaughter Katie’s wedding day.

Katie and Jack originally married at Liverpool Town Hall on the 4th of July, but sadly Janet was unable to attend. Knowing how much it would mean to her and the family, we worked closely with Janet’s daughter Julie to arrange a wonderful surprise that would bring a little piece of the wedding day to Kiwi House.

Bringing a Special Wedding Day to Kiwi House

On the 16th of August, Katie and Jack arrived at Kiwi House wearing their wedding outfits, ready to recreate some of the most special moments from their big day. The plans had been carefully arranged with the family, but we kept everything a surprise for Janet.

Katie looked beautiful in her wedding dress, while Jack looked very smart in his wedding suit. The couple then repeated their vows in front of Janet and their family as well as our residents and staff, creating the feeling that we were bringing their wedding celebration to her. There was plenty of cake to enjoy, while family members also dressed in their wedding outfits and joined us for the afternoon.

Dancing With Joy

The celebrations continued when our Kiwi House choir surprised Katie and Jack by singing ‘In My Life’ by The Beatles, a song that held special meaning for the couple. We then enjoyed another beautiful moment as Katie and Jack took to the dance floor for their first dance, dancing to the Grease Mega Mix, just as they had at their original wedding.

To finish the afternoon, we enjoyed a confetti throw, with our residents getting involved and helping to make the occasion feel just like a real wedding celebration.

Creating Moments That Matter

For us, the day was about much more than recreating a wedding; it was about making sure Janet could be included in an important family milestone and giving everyone the opportunity to share in the happiness together.

The celebration was organised by our Home Manager Jeanette and our Activity Team, who worked closely with Julie to make sure every detail was in place. Julie stated that it was a unique and lovely experience for the family, residents, and especially her Mum, and that it made the family celebrations of Katie and Jack’s wedding complete.

A Memory to Treasure

We were delighted to see Janet, her family, our residents, and team all come together for such a meaningful afternoon. It was a beautiful reminder that important moments can be celebrated in many different ways, and that it is never too late to create new memories with the people who matter most.
